Mr. Walid Mushtaq, the President of RYMUN 2K13 appreciated the participation of students and encouraged them to hold their aims high. He expressed his sadness over the departure of all the delegates who had participated endlessly and worked hard for this day. Mr. walid said, “RYMUN does not just serve as an academic activity but equip the students with the techniques of problem solving and analytical abilities and the skills they will need in future to succeed as future leaders.”

The topics were selected by administration from each of these committee and later students opted for the country of choice to represent in a particular committee and discus its stance on the issue.

There were eleven committees allotted to the delegates i.e. Pakistan National Assembly (PNA), Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), Special, Political and Decolonization Committee (SPDC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), European Parliament (EP), Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs Committee (SOCHUM).

Sets of students were assigned various countries and one of the students of each country represented its state in the General Assembly and gave its perspective on that specific topic under discussion. Students had formulated resolutions regarding the particular issues of importance in their committees during their committee sessions that held for 2 consecutive days.

The Ambassadors covered the combating of the threat posed by Terrorism, Human Trafficking and role of youth and the expectation from youth and also the responsibilities of Media. They also discussed the mechanism of sustainable development.

In the second half of the session, the Committee Chairs presented the draft resolutions of their committees and the Ambassadors discussed and voted in favor/against the draft resolution of every committee. The delegates were awarded the awards of Best delegation, outstanding diplomacy award, honorary mentions and best chair awards.

The RYMUN 2K13 General Assembly sessions basically aimed to involve both youth and the ambassadors on one platform and engage them in dialogue and discussion with regards to the agendas. This enlightened the delegates over information regarding the issues at hand. The ambassadors got a chance to interact with the youth and get a different perspective separate from their own.  Roots International Schools believes in involving youth in all aspects of the planning process and to inspire the next generation of leaders to become involved in global issues and RIS achieved their aim by their first successful General Assembly Session last year.
