5G Network Soon to be Tested in Pakistan

A 5G platform has been finalized by Ericsson and it has been informed by the company that it is ready for operators for their radio and core network. The 5G by Ericsson meet all international standards of 5G network. The announcement came after the release of commercial software i.e. 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) based on 3GPP 5G New Radio standards.

With limited availability of radio locations in cities, the 5G RAN software will allow operators to grow wide in cities, this new radio product is called Street Macro.

The network hardware installed before 2015 by operators will need to be upgraded for this 5G software, otherwise, the hardware deployed after 2015 can be utilized to run 5G via remote installation. The software by Ericsson will be available to operators is fourth quarter, 2018.

The pre-required essentials of 5G networks need to be fulfilled in advance if the operators want early launch of the 5G network, according to Ericsson.

A field test in Torino, Italy has signified that 20Gbps speed was achieved by the 5G upgraded network of Ericsson. And with fast speed, the bandwidth cost will also be greatly reduced by around 10 times. Its worth mentioning here that government of Pakistan has also notified in policy for telecom sector that they may test 5G network in the country.
