FATA-KPK Merger, All Set to Execute the Reforms

FATA-KPK merger

A Committee devised for looking into the matter related to nation-wide enactment of reforms. Their authenticity and validity, in particular the case of FATA, has finally recommended the merging of FATA and KPK. The National Implementation committee (NIC), that also allowed the provision of 23 member to be elected from Fata in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in the upcoming general elections. It committee was chaired by Prime Minister Shahif Khaqan Abbasi.

It was also proposed that FCR shall be abolished from Fata, and until a comprehensive legislation system is not constituted, British era Colonial Regulations shall be adhered to address disputes and conflicts. COAS, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Governer KPK, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, CM KPK Pervaiz Khattak, Chairman of the Committee Sartaj Aziz, Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch and Barrister Zafarullah Khan, were also present in the meeting.

Although the news of FATA-KPK merger should be announced publically to set aside the ambiguities and reservations of tribal people, who since very long are seeking a compact reforms in Fata. But the merger has been opposed by JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is also very close affiliate of PML-N. therefore, the announcement is put to halt to convince JUI-F over the matter.

The committee has also proposed to apply the rulings of Peshawar high court and Supreme Court on tribal regions, which is also a red flag raised in reservation by opposing groups.

With the persistent opposition and not so sure policy in place from federal government to take all stake holders on board. KPK government and 11 corps in Peshawar have completed their entire homework on the implementation of FATA-KPK merging. They are of the view that no one should impede the process and lots of sacrifices have been made and patience shown by deprived people of FATA for this historical reform and we shall join hands, politically and financially to expedite the execution of this reform.
