Army is not Interfering in Government: COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa

COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa speaks to the senate committee of the whole, on Tuesday. He was invited by chairman senate, Mian Raza Rabbani for describing military’s role pertaining to foreign policy and security. The prime agenda of meeting was to seek understanding of national security in relation to latest development and visits.

Army chief was accompanied by ISI chief Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, Director Director General MI Maj Gen Asim Munir and DG Military Operation Maj Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza. Gen Bajwa said, we upheld the democratic rights of institutions and he rejected the notion that we are opposing the government in any front.

In case of Faizabad sit in, if the military had not played its role the things could have moved out of hands. He was answering a question raised by PML-N Lawmaker.

Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa also asked the lawmaker to work upon policy related to foreign and security and it would be implemented in its fullest. He also said that, democracy and constitutional supremacy cannot be compromised and if mistakes were occurred in past, he is not liable for them.

The difference between military and civil leadership cannot be at the moment claimed to have been out-rightly resolved but after this visit and the response from Army Chief has generated a very positive way among both segments. Lawmaker on this occasion were very glad by the amicable gesture from Army chief. According to them despite some very tough question, he was so welcoming and reasonably astute in responding them that even some raised question about Hafiz Saeed.

COAS also assured the civil leadership that in a bid to streamline relations with India, military will never hesitate to cooperate. According to legislators, he was of the view to improve relation with all neighbor countries, including India. Army chief’s willingness for good tie with India will be definitely a keen reply to their claim of army’s hindrance in the peace process. But normal ties are not possible until India step back from its stubborn attitude.

Army general also informed the lawmakers about Indian occupations which are triggering instability and terrorism in region. With the strong bond with Afghan intelligence they are trying to destabilize the peace.

He also reminded the lawmakers that Pakistan has also made due efforts to establish good relation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. And Iran is very vital for the regional security.

In response to Saudi alliance, he said that certain things are yet in pipeline and once the things are clear he will brief them to the parliament but he also clarified that we totally oppose the idea of sectarian threads being attached to alliance and said we always had distanced ourselves from sectarian conflicts or anything provoking such acts.
