Apple Announced Hijab Emoji on World Emoji Day

hijabi emojiThe final versions of a series of new emojis were revealed on Monday, Apple will include these emojis in the newest version of its operating system across various platforms and will be released later this year. The emojis will also include a hijab emoji.

According to Apple, thousands of emojis available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac help add meaning and personality to every message.

New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut.

Reactions on social media followed with many coming out in support of the act and congratulating Saudi-origin Rayouf Alhumedhi who had sent her idea to The Unicode Consortium.

Alhumedhi said that adding different colour skin tones, adding different couples, will actually promote, hopefully promote tolerance.
