Huawei and HEC partners to create R&D Lab in Pakistan

Huawei and HECA document of understanding (DoU) has been signed between Huawei and HEC (Higher Education Commission). The document is signed under a strategic plan to increase collaboration and promote higher education institutes for joint development of technologies in Pakistan and initiate research and development labs.

Huawei will support HEC to setup R&D laboratory. The DoU was signed during Chariman Hec and a group of Vice Chancellors’ visit to China. The agreement was signed by HEC Chairman, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and President Huawei Technologies, Swift Liu (Network and Security Product Line).

This agreement will be beneficial for higher education institutions in Pakistan and will will have a lot to gain from Huawei’s expertise in R&D and technology development, Huawei will also conduct trainings and workshops for researchers and scientists on technologies introduced in Pakistan. The labs will be focused on testing performances on advanced and emerging technologies deployed and will facilitate capacity building opportunities and programmes to lab staff and professionals for R&D activities as well.

Huawei won a contract from HEC for deployment of first-ever high speed information highway infrastructure back in 2006, Pakistan Education and Research Network (PERN) to connect universities and degree awarding institutions across the country. Since then, Huawei and HEC have have been getting along well for introduction of diversified technological solutions for higher education sector in Pakistan.

This is the 10th year of their partnership, Chairman HEC said that both started working together in September 2006, it was a good time to take their partnership to the next level and make it a strategic partnership.  He also praised the efforts of HEC team especially Anwar Amjad, Director General (IT) for putting his efforts in the possibility of this initiative.

Swift Liu appreciated the visit of Chairman HEC and the Vice Chancellors/ Rectors. He stressed upon Huawei’s continuous commitment and support for R&D laboratory and associated activities along with necessary equipment required in Pakistan.
