Taxes on Mobile Phone Users in PakistanAnnounced in the proposed budget for 2017-18, the government has decided that taxes on mobile phone users in Pakistan will be reduced. The budget has proposed to reduce withholding tax and federal excise duty on telecom services.

The budget for year 2017-18 has proposed withholding tax or income tax for mobile phone subscribers to be reduced from 14% to 12.5%. The federal excise duty for federal areas has also been reduced from 18.5% to 17%.

The federal excise duty is not applicable for mobile services used in provinces instead the mobile services are charges a certain GST that varies from province to province.

Federal government is also expecting provincial government to reduce sales tax on mobile telephony and bring it to 17%.

140 million mobile phone users in Pakistan will directly benefit from the tax reduction.
