GPCCI Islamabad Region President Pervaiz Akhtar said that the volume of trade did not actually reflect the true potential between the two countries. It stood at $2.2 billion in 2016 which could fairly be improved with the cooperation of the business community.

German Embassy Head of Economic Section Martin Herzer addressed the seminar and highlighted that the key factor of the bilateral trade had been GSP Plus.

He added that they expected and wanted more German firms to invest in Pakistan and also wanted Pakistan to make better use of the opportunities provided by the GSP Plus. GIZ Country Director Dr Julie Reviere said that Germany was helping Pakistan improve labour standards so that companies could have a competitive edge in European markets.

During the question and answer session, GPCCI Vice President Habil Ahmed Khan briefed the audience on the collaboration between Pakistan and Germany for the development of renewable energy projects in the country.

GPCCI Senior Vice President Waseem Rafi repeated at the end that they need to expand bilateral trade between the two countries and both countries should do additional work in the field of information technology and innovation.
