According to a report published on the website of Dawn, a leading reporter of Pakistani News, Google/YouTube conditionally agreed to introduce a regional version of Youtube in Pakistan which will block blasphemous content only within Pakistani by working in compliance with local authorities.

Speaking to the Standing Committee of Senate, the Minister for IT and Telecom Ms. Anusha Rehman applauded the government in being able to pursue the management of YouTube to consider the religious sensitivities of Pakistanis and agreeing to launch a new arrangement most likely to go by the domain of  YouTube.com.pk or YouTube.PK. She also unveiled that Google/YouTube demanded a guarantee from the Government regarding not to be held responsible for any blasphemous content uploaded on its sites even with close alliance with the local authorities. After this Draft ordinance was passed it would be enacted as a law of Pakistan.

The launch of this new localized version of Youtube for Pakistan will not only give the right to the Pakistani Government to block any blasphemous content on the website through its request to Google/Youtube but it will also help Google/Youtube not to disregard its company’s policy of hindering freedom of expression.

No exact date for the reopening of Youtube in Pakistan has been given yet after it had been banned back in September 2012 in Pakistan for not removing blasphemous content uploaded on the website.
