Rashid Khan Appointed as New CEO of Ufone

New CEO of UfoneThe former CEO of Mobilink (Jazz) Rashid Khan has been suddenly appointed as the New CEO of Ufone and will be assuming the office immediately.

Mr. Rainer Rathgeber has been replaced as the CEO of Ufone by Rashid Khan, he was a German national and had been serving as Ufone CEO for 18 months.

Ufone managed to sustain its position in the market in his brief tenure, despite no new investments coming from the Etisalat Group while other competitors were investing hundreds of millions of dollars in network and new spectrum.

The company was made cash positive due to its Super Card customers that make up major part of company’s inflows.

During Rainer’s tenure, the Ufone’s future remained uncertain due to anticipated merger between PTCL and Ufone. People also regarded Rainer’s appointment as the final step towards the surfacing of the merger.

Rainer Rathgeber joined Ufone coming from Etisalat, now the question is whether he will leave the group or join Etisalat back.

About Rashid Khan

A veteran in the telecommunication industry, Rashid Khan has held many management positions in the cellular business among the emerging markets for the past 20 years.

He is best known for his tenure at Mobilink (Jazz) – he was the CEO and President of the company from July 2008 till August 2014.

Before Mobilink, he had been working as the Managing Director and CEO of Bangalink.

Prior to that, he had been working in Silicon Valley for almost 15 years, he worked for various international companies and acquired working experience in the technology sector and was also awarded patents for his inventions.

According to the official statement from Ufone, the Board of Directors at Ufone, an Etisalat Group Company, announced the appointment of Mr. Rashid Khan as acting CEO of Ufone effective August 15, 2017.

Rashid Khan will replace Mr. Rainer Rathgeber who served as CEO Ufone for last one and half years and has decided to join his family in Europe.

Rainer stated the the time with Ufone had been one of the most exciting phases of his business life, thanks to everyone involved. But: It was time to normalize his family life.

The incoming CEO, Rashid Khan expressed that he was very excited to take this role and looks forward to lead this exceptional organization, dedicated and talented professionals to take the business forward.

Abdulrahim Nooryani, Chairman of the Ufone Board while welcoming Rashid Khan to Ufone as new CEO of Ufone and added that he would like to thank Rainer for his contributions to Ufone during his tenure and wish him all the best for his future.
